This is a restricted lateral posting open to employees who hold a LSO 2 base position

The Team

The District Range Program is a small, established, and collaborative team dedicated to sustainable range management and exceptional client service. Comprised of experienced professionals, the team fosters a supportive environment where individuals are encouraged to work independently, take initiative, and contribute to meaningful natural resource management outcomes. Team members work closely with a diverse network of ministry staff, range agreement holders, First Nations, industry partners, and other stakeholders to support healthy and productive Crown rangelands.

The Role

As a key member of the District Range Program, you will provide professional and technical leadership in range stewardship, supporting the sustainable use of Crown rangelands across the district. This role offers a rewarding mix of field and office work, with opportunities to engage with stakeholders, conduct field assessments, support tenure administration, and contribute to land management decisions that benefit both local communities and the ranching industry. Ideal candidates are motivated learners who enjoy working independently, solving complex challenges, and making a tangible impact on British Columbia's landscapes.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Range Management or Natural Resource Science, which includes course content focussed on Range Management, Range Plant Ecology and Range Plant Physiology.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in range management and administration.
  • Must be registered, or immediately eligible for full registration, as a Professional Agrologist with the BC Institute of Agrologists (BCIA) in good standing. Note: Immediately eligible for full registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the BCIA. 
  • Experience in developing and implementing creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Experience in planning, preparing and delivering oral presentations and training to diverse groups inside and outside government, including experience conducting effective meetings.

Provisos:

  • Must have a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License, or equivalent.
  • Must have, or be willing and able to obtain, First Aid Certification.
  • Extensive field work involves strenuous walking and field evaluations in difficult terrain and under all weather conditions.
  • Proficiency in the use of field equipment including GPS, mobile data collection devices, and mobile GIS applications.
