Description
BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is a unique program of the Ministry of Forests (MOF). Working collaboratively with regional and district operations, BCTS plans, develops, and auctions a substantial portion of the province’s annual available timber volume. BCTS operates as a for profit entity within a government organization. Its goal is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the Market Pricing System through auctions of timber harvested from British Columbia’s public land. BCTS operations are guided by three overarching principles, forest sector safety, reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and sustainable forest management.
A career path in BC Timber Sales offers exceptional opportunities to develop new solutions to complex problems, and to learn and grow personally and professionally. Existing and future BCTS employees have the opportunity to impact public and private forests, communities, the economy and the lives of British Columbians in positive and unique ways
The Team:
The Kootenay Business Area team within BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is a collaborative and well-established group responsible for supporting the auction and administration of Crown timber within the region. As part of an organization that manages approximately 20% of British Columbia's allowable annual cut, the team plays an important role in delivering sustainable forest management, supporting economic development, and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.
The Business Administrator works closely with a diverse group of professionals, including forestry staff, financial and administrative specialists, contract and tenure experts, and regional and provincial partners. The team relies on strong collaboration to ensure contracts, financial processes, and business systems are administered accurately and efficiently. As a key member of the Business Area, this position supports the team in achieving operational goals while helping maintain the integrity of BCTS's competitive timber auction process.
The Role:
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and self-motivated administrative professional who enjoys balancing technical, financial, and contract administration responsibilities in a dynamic environment. As the Business Administrator, you will provide specialized technical and administrative support that is essential to the successful delivery of the Business Area's operations.
In this role, you will prepare and administer a wide variety of contracts and tenures, provide financial administration services, and maintain key business systems and records that support the marketing and sale of Crown timber. Working independently and applying your knowledge of legislation, policy, and procedures, you will identify risks, provide recommendations, and ensure processes are completed accurately and in compliance with established requirements.
Your work will have a direct impact on the effectiveness of the Business Area's operations and the integrity of the timber auction process. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to sustainable forest management, support economic prosperity throughout British Columbia, and be part of a team that influences forestry outcomes across the province. If you are looking for a role that combines problem-solving, financial administration, contract management, and meaningful public service, this is an opportunity to make a tangible contribution while continuing to grow your career

- A minimum of two years of experience in contract administration, policies, standards and procedures.
