Team
The Stuart Nechako Forest District is seeking a Senior Licensed Authorizations Officer/Senior Authorizations Specialist to join a collaborative and experienced Authorizations team. This promotional opportunity within the BC Public Service offers a growth position or lateral transfer for employees interested in advancing their expertise in forestry authorizations and natural resource management across the Omineca Region, with locations available in Fort St. James, Vanderhoof, Prince George, or Mackenzie.

Role 
Reporting to an excluded manager, this position provides specialized expertise to the natural resource sector through the evaluation of resource applications, applied research, and leadership on complex projects and initiatives. The role involves supervising a team of professional and technical staff while supporting the delivery of high-quality authorization services. You will join a well-established team that combines extensive experience with new perspectives and opportunities for mentorship and knowledge transfer. Working closely with district staff, you will contribute to a broad range of authorization programs, client services, and field-based activities that support sustainable resource management throughout the region. 

The position requires strong collaboration with Indigenous Nations, stakeholders, industry representatives, government partners, and fellow authorization professionals. Through these relationships, you will help deliver effective, timely, and informed authorization decisions that support the responsible stewardship of British Columbia's natural resources. This is an excellent opportunity for a resource management professional who enjoys leadership, relationship-building, problem-solving, and making a meaningful contribution to natural resource decision-making in northern British Columbia.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in a Natural Resource Management field and two (2) years of related experience; or,
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Natural Resource Management field and three (3) years of related experience; or,
  • Diploma in a Natural Resource Management field and four (4) years of related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Related Experience may include:

  • Experience (field/office) working in natural resource management.
  • Experience in negotiating and consulting with relevant parties in natural resource management.
  • Experience in supervising, leading, coaching, and mentoring staff.

Professional Registration and Certification Requirements:

  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) or related designation with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with FPBC within six (6) months of employment.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid BC driver’s licence.
  • Must meet safety standards of WorkSafeBC.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position can be located in Fort St James, Mackenzie, Prince George, or Vanderhoof.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in the above locations.
