The Team
Working for the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship, the Land and Resource Specialist joins a talented and supportive team of land use planners, analysts, project managers, negotiators, government executives, and partners across multiple agencies. Together, this merry band of public servants collaborates with a diversity of governments, sectors and industries to advance innovative land use plans in the Omineca Region.
The Role
The Land and Resource Specialist leads land use planning projects in the Omineca Region. Land use plan outcomes are a foundational cornerstone of effective and efficient regulatory and permitting systems. This role blends ecological, social, and economic perspectives while working closely with Indigenous Nations, governments, communities, and industry partners. The LRS has significant natural resource technical expertise and a strategic mindset. LRSs will have planning and process‑management skills to drive analysis, consultation, policy work, and plan development. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Master’s degree in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) and one (1) year of related experience; OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) and three (3) years of related experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Must possess and maintain a BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
Related Experience must include all of the following:
- Experience working in the natural resource sector.
- Experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project or regional initiative.
- Experience in managing project teams.
- Experience managing relationships with senior level external partners.
- Experience and knowledge in implementing provincial and regional First Nations consultation procedures.
- Experience and knowledge of conflict and dispute resolution principles and practices.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Training in project management.
- Experience facilitating groups whose members hold varying interests, in a natural resource context.
