BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is a unique program of the Ministry of Forests (MOF). Working collaboratively with regional and district operations, BCTS plans, develops, and auctions a substantial portion of the province’s annual available timber volume. BCTS operates as a for profit entity within a government organization.  Its goal is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the Market Pricing System through auctions of timber harvested from British Columbia’s public land. BCTS operations are guided by three overarching principles, forest sector safety, reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and sustainable forest management.

The Team
The Engineering Team is a dynamic group comprised of experienced professionals and enthusiastic newcomers, all eager to tackle the challenges of our business area. With a team of 8, including one supervisor and one engineering officer, we collaborate and blend fresh perspectives with seasoned expertise. Over the past two years, this established team has been instrumental in setting up access to Timber Sale Licenses, maintaining roads to government standards, and properly deactivating roads no longer in use.  Our team’s success is based on eagerness, work ethic, and collaboration with other teams. The team is dedicated to implementing innovative engineering solutions that promote safety, minimize environmental impact, and enhance operational productivity with the flexibility of In-Office and Work at Home opportunities.

The Role
The exciting and pivotal role of Engineering Technologist plays a crucial part in shaping the infrastructure of our business area with a balance of office and field skills, which requires a skillful blend of technical and practical expertise.  Your main responsibilities will include pre-sale discussions, writing and implementing contracts, sales and access plans for road construction, maintenance, and deactivation, all the while focusing on the application of engineering principles, to ensure the successful implementation of forestry operations. The ideal candidate will join our ambitious team with a passion for flexibility, initiative, and a willingness to learn given the constantly changing goals and project priorities, that drive this program to success.

Qualifications:

• Diploma in forest engineering, forest management or equivalent related field, plus three years of experience in directly related operational field forestry activities.

Or

• An equivalent combination of education and experience such as five years of experience in two or more in the following operational field forestry activities:
  • Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
  • Cut-block development
  • Forest road engineering
  • Silviculture
• Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with the Forest Professionals BC (FPBC) as a Registered Forest Technologist or equivalent.
• Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.

Preference may be given to candidates with one (1) or more of the following:

• Coursework in contract or financial administration.
• Experience in reviewing data, analyzing and diagnosing engineering issues and developing recommendations to resolve the issues.

• Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
• Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established for similar vacancies within the BC Timber Sales Kamloops Business Area: Clearwater
