The Team
The Thompson Okanagan Region, Strategic Initiatives team is a collaborative group focused on complex resource management challenges. We value diverse perspectives, respectful relationships, and meaningful collaboration with First Nations, communities, partners, and other teams to support positive outcomes for forests and future generations.

The Role
As a Land and Resource Specialist, you will support the development and implementation of the Forest Landscape Plan by bringing together technical expertise, data, and diverse knowledge and perspectives. You will build relationships with First Nations and partners while contributing to healthy forests, resilient communities, sustainable economies, and reconciliation.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) and one (1) year of related experience; OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) and three (3) years of related experience; OR 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must possess and maintain a BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

Related Experience must include all of the following:

  • Experience working in the natural resource sector.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project or regional initiative.
  • Experience in managing project teams.
  • Experience managing relationships with senior level external partners. 
  • Experience and knowledge in implementing provincial and regional First Nations consultation procedures.
  • Experience and knowledge of conflict and dispute resolution principles and practices.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Training in project management. 
  • Experience facilitating groups whose members hold varying interests, in a natural resource context.

This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and/or permanent vacancies.
