The Team
The Thompson Okanagan Region, Strategic Initiatives team is a collaborative group focused on complex resource management challenges. The Role
As a Land and Resource Specialist, you will support the development and implementation of the Forest Landscape Plan by bringing together technical expertise, data, and diverse knowledge and perspectives. You will build relationships with First Nations and partners while contributing to healthy forests, resilient communities, sustainable economies, and reconciliation.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) plus three (3) years of related experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of related education/training and experience as accepted by the Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC).
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
Professional Registration and Certification Requirements
- Registered or immediately eligible for registration as a professional forester with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC).
- Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the registration process with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
Related experience must include all of the following:
- Two (2) years’ experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project or regional initiative.
- Experience working in a natural resource discipline.
- Experience in coordinating and leading the development of forest landscape plans or other strategic management plans consistent with government policy and regulations.
- Experience in contract management as the qualified receiver, tracking deliverables, and ensuring program objectives are met.
- Experience in chairing meetings, participating and/or facilitating committees, planning tables, or technical tables with First Nations and stakeholders.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience managing project teams.
- Experience in effectively resolving conflicts around sensitive issues.

This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
