Description
The Team
The primary aim of the Food Safety Inspection Branch is to safeguard public health by ensuring that agri-food, meat and seafood produced in the province is safe and wholesome. The branch works in partnership with other federal and provincial agencies to facilitate food safety through three main program areas which are led by an executive director and supported by a team of administrative and policy and program advisory staff.
The Role
The Agri-food Compliance and Enforcement Program is a small team which operates across British Columbia, consisting of officers and a supervisor. The program area oversees the licensing and inspection of farmgate and farmgate plus rural slaughter facilities, and compliance and enforcement activities related to organic label use, mink farming, and violations of the B.C. Food Safety Act under the Meat Inspection Regulation.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Relevant education in a related discipline such as administrative law, investigation and enforcement, criminology, criminal justice, bylaw or food science.
- Degree or higher in relevant education and a minimum one year experience*, or
- Diploma or higher in relevant education and a minimum two years experience*, or
- Certification or equivalent in relevant education and three years experience*, or
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent and four years experience*.
*Related Experience Includes any of the Following:
- Conducting inspections to monitor compliance.
- Conducting investigations and taking enforcement action in a regulatory field.
- Interpreting and applying legislation and/or regulations pertaining to a regulatory program.
Willingness statements and provisos
- Valid B.C. driver’s licence.
- Must be willing to interact with upset or irate clients, and willing and physically able to conduct fieldwork.
- Must be willing to work overtime.
- Must be willing and able to travel throughout British Columbia using various modes of transportation, including motor vehicles, small boats, float planes, and helicopters, to access rural and remote locations.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until April 30, 2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and/or permanent vacancies.
