The Team
Development Services, within the Ministry of Transportation & Transit, is an established team responsible for reviewing development and subdivision proposals to ensure growth occurs safely and in a way that protects the integrity of BC’s transportation network. The team provides technical advice and collaborates closely with industry partners, local governments, and the public to support responsible land‑use planning. In this role, candidates will work alongside Senior Development Officers, Provincial Approving Officers, engineers, surveyors, developers, contractors, and Ministry colleagues. The team’s work plays a critical role in safeguarding public safety and maintaining the functionality of BC’s highway system. Known for its technical expertise, collaborative approach, and strong commitment to public service, Development Services supports thoughtful, well‑planned growth across the province.

The Role
This entry‑level position supports the Development Services team by providing citizens, applicants, and internal staff with complete and accurate information to ensure development proposals are reviewed efficiently and consistently. The role contributes to the ministry’s mission of protecting the public by helping applicants navigate requirements and ensuring inquiries are directed to the appropriate technical experts. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

• Grade 12 or equivalent and a minimum of five (5) years *related experience; OR,
• Diploma from a recognized Institute of Technology (e.g. Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC) in a related (civil engineering, structural engineering, construction technology, surveying, geology, geography, or project management) discipline, OR a degree and a minimum of three (3) years *related experience; OR,  
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

* Related experience must include:

• experience evaluating information to assist in making recommendations
• experience providing technical advice
• experience preparing technical reports
• experience working within statutes, regulations, bylaws, policies and procedures.

Preference may be given for the following:

• Minimum two (2) years Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure experience

About this Position:

There is currently one (1) Permanent Full Time position available in Vernon or Salmon Arm.

An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and/or permanent vacancies in the following locations: Vernon, Salmon Arm, Kelowna and Penticton.

This position has full time on-site requirements. 

A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required
