The Team
The Governance & Continuous Improvement Unit is an established team within the Governance, Legislation and Workforce Branch that plays a key role in shaping governance, accountability, and continuous improvement across British Columbia’s K-12 public education system. The team leads the development and review of governance policy, supports the Framework for Enhancing Student Learning, and provides strategic policy and legislative advice that helps improve educational outcomes and promote equity for students throughout the province.
The Role
The Director, Governance & Continuous Improvement provides strategic leadership for the development and implementation of B.C.’s K-12 public education accountability framework and works closely with school districts, education partners, and ministry executives to advance student success. This is an exceptional opportunity to influence province-wide education policy, lead complex governance and continuous improvement initiatives, and contribute to meaningful outcomes for students, educators, and communities across British Columbia.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Administration or a relevant discipline and three (3) years related work experience, OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Related experience must include all of the following:
- Experience overseeing complex governance and accountability projects or programs with provincial scope.
- Strategic planning and continuous improvement including all of the following:
o planning and performance measurement,
o developing and implementing a system-wide accountability framework
o Experience in a leadership capacity, building effective partnerships with external and internal partners.
- Experience in written and oral communications, including delivering presentations to senior management and external partners.
- Experience supervising and leading multidisciplinary teams, including developing and evaluating performance plans and goals, coaching, team building, mentoring and experience resolving complex staff and/or client issues.
Preferences may be given to applicants with the following:
• Formal Education or Professional Experience in the K-12 system
• Experience in the development of policy and legislation.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
