The Team
Join the South Area Science and Monitoring team, a small and dedicated group of hydrogeologists, groundwater protection officers, and monitoring technicians who are passionate about protecting and managing groundwater resources. As part of this established and highly collaborative team, you will work closely with other groundwater science, monitoring and compliance practitioners to support sustainable groundwater management through science-based advice, compliance activities, monitoring , and policy development. The Role
Working in a variety of settings, the Groundwater Protection Officer carries out statutory responsibilities to promote and verify compliance with the Water Sustainability Act and Groundwater Protection Regulation, and provides critical technical expertise on groundwater protection, monitoring and management of issues within a designated region. 

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

•    A Degree in a natural resource field (preferably geology, hydrogeology, environmental science or geological engineering) and 3 years water resource related experience; or
•    A Diploma in a natural resource field (preferably geology, hydrogeology, environmental science or geological engineering) and 5 years water resource related experience.
•    Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, with EGBC as a Professional Engineer or as a Professional Geoscientist.  A holder of a limited licence with EGBC to practice engineering or geoscience within the scope of hydrogeology may be considered. 
NOTE: immediately eligible means currently registered as a member in good standing in another Canadian District with eligibility to immediately transfer to EGBC.
•    Experience in groundwater quality and quantity field data collection methods, including monitoring, testing techniques, and sampling from a well.
•    Experience working with relevant computer software, including spreadsheets, databases and mapping (GIS) programs. 
•    Experience compiling, analysing and summarizing technical data preparing graphs, tables and calculating basic statistics, and writing technical reports and communications.

Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following: (applicants that screen in on the above essential criteria may be further screened on any of the following preferred educations and/or experience)
•    Experience conducting water investigations, including aquifer and well characterization, with experience in British Columbia being an asset.
•    Experience with interpreting and applying legislation and regulation, including but not limited to working with the Water Sustainability Act and other statutes that support natural resource management.

Provisos:
•    Valid BC Class 5 BC driver’s licence, or equivalent.
•    Willingness to conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
•    Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
