Description

The Team
The Thompson Rivers District Wildfire Risk Reduction Program Team works to reduce wildfire risk to communities, infrastructure, and natural resources through strategic planning and on-the-ground mitigation projects. Team members collaborate with Indigenous Nations, local governments, BC Wildfire Service staff, contractors, and other resource professionals to deliver meaningful, landscape-level outcomes.
This established and collaborative team offers the opportunity to contribute to community safety and climate resilience while working on impactful projects across the district. The Role
This position leads wildfire risk reduction projects across the Thompson Rivers District, working with Indigenous Nations, local governments, BC Wildfire Service staff, contractors, and partners to improve community and landscape resilience. The role supports public safety and sustainable land stewardship through collaboration, project leadership, and meaningful on-the-ground outcomes. It offers an opportunity to help address one of British Columbia’s top natural resource management priorities and make a lasting impact on wildfire resilience.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Registered or immediately eligible for registration, as a fully licensed professional with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the Natural Resource Sector.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project.
  • Experience managing relationships with senior level stakeholders. and leading consultation sessions.
  • Knowledge of conflict and dispute resolution principles and practices.
  • Valid B.C. driver’s licence.
  • Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork, work in adverse weather conditions, travel to meet job requirements, and travel in fixed and/or rotary winged aircraft or watercraft.

Preference Statements

  • Advanced training in project management.
  • Experience in cultural and prescribed fire, including burn‑plan development, technical review, and operational implementation.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Experience or knowledge in wildfire management practices.
  • Experience in budget management and contract and financial administration.
  • Experience or knowledge implementing provincial and regional First Nations consultation procedures.
  • Experience in conflict and dispute resolution principles and practices.

This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
