The Team

The Role
As a Geospatial Services Coordinator, you will help maintain and improve foundational spatial data while working with others to develop practical tools, workflows, and communications. The role combines technical expertise, attention to detail, initiative, and team leadership, with opportunities to support and guide colleagues while contributing to data and services that help communities, emergency responders, and decision-makers across B.C.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in geomatics, resource management, geography, computer science or related field and three (3) years of related experience; OR
  • Diploma in geomatics, resource management, geography, computer science or related field and five (5) years related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.

Related Experience must include all of the following:

  • Experience using sound technical knowledge and analytical skills with geospatial tools such as GIS, relational databases, remote sensing or related technologies.
  • Experience developing methodologies and performing custom geospatial analysis and interpretations.
  • Experience working with operational data, data editing processes and data quality control practices.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Experience automating or scripting solutions using tools such as python, SQL, or other programing languages.
  • Experience in the development and maintenance of data management policies, procedures, systems and standards.
  • Experience with database management tools and applications.
  • Experience working on complex land and resource management issues.
  • Experience working with land surveys and an understanding of survey systems in B.C.
  • Experience using government processes and standards relating to the development and maintenance of IT systems.
  • Experience developing and managing large spatial and attribute data sets.
  • Experience with Project management.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any Ministry of Water, Lands and Natural Resources office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
