Description
BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is a unique program of the Ministry of Forests (MOF). Working collaboratively with regional and district operations, BCTS plans, develops, and auctions a substantial portion of the province’s annual available timber volume. BCTS operates as a for profit entity within a government organization. Its goal is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the Market Pricing System through auctions of timber harvested from British Columbia’s public land. BCTS operations are guided by three overarching principles, forest sector safety, reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and sustainable forest management.
The Team:
The Okanagan Columbia Business Area is a collaborative team of planning, development, engineering, harvesting, and silviculture professionals who work together to deliver sustainable forest management and timber development programs. The team values diverse perspectives, initiative, teamwork, and practical problem solving, creating an environment where everyone is trusted to contribute, learn, and grow. Working closely with Woodlands Supervisors, Practices Foresters, Operations Technologists, Forest Technologists, and staff responsible for timber sale development, the team plays an important role in stakeholder engagement, achieving the BCTS mandate, and delivering apportioned timber volume.
The Role:
As a Woodlands Supervisor, you will lead and support a team delivering forest development, silviculture, forest health, and contract management activities, while ensuring forestry operations are sustainable, compliant, and aligned with environmental, business, and stewardship objectives. You’ll have the opportunity to bring people together, value diverse perspectives, and build strong relationships with colleagues, Indigenous partners, stakeholders, and communities. Job Requirements:
Qualifications:
- A Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) or be eligible for registration as an RFT with the Forest Professionals of British Columbia (FPBC) and three years of experience in operational forestry such as forest tenures, cut-block and road development, engineering, silviculture, harvest operations or compliance and enforcement.
- Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.
Preference may be given to candidates with one (1) or more of the following:
- A Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) or be eligible for registration as an RFT with the Forest Professionals of BC (FPBC) and four years of experience in operational forestry such as forest tenures, cut-block and road development, engineering, silviculture, harvest operations or compliance and enforcement
- Six (6) or more months of experience supervising, leading, and mentoring staff.
Provisos:
- Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.
- Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
- Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.

About this position:
Flexible work options may be available; successful candidate can work up to 2 days a week remotely subject to an approved telework agreement.
