Description

The Team
The Capital & Corporate Services team provides financial operations, procurement, payment, reporting, fixed asset, and financial advisory services that support ministry operations and infrastructure programs across British Columbia. As part of an established team of approximately nine employees, you will work with financial professionals, procurement and contract management staff, administrative employees, and managers to help ensure public funds are managed responsibly and financial information is accurate and reliable. The team supports a wide range of ministry programs, including major infrastructure projects such as schools, hospitals, student housing, child care centres, and other public facilities. Team members value collaboration, practical problem-solving, and continuous improvement, while working closely with clients and partners across the ministry.

The Role
This position provides hands-on financial operations support across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Fixed Assets. Responsibilities include monitoring and reconciling financial transactions, preparing reports, supporting period-end activities, maintaining fixed asset records, resolving financial system issues, and providing support for PCard administration and other financial operations functions. The work helps ensure suppliers are paid accurately and on time, financial records are reliable, and ministry assets are properly managed in accordance with government policies. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys problem-solving, working with financial systems, managing competing priorities, and providing practical support to a wide range of clients.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and no formal work experience; OR
  • Diploma and six (6) months of related experience*; OR
  • Certificate or coursework and one (1) year of related experience*; OR
  • Secondary school graduation (Dogwood, GED) and two (2) years of related experience*; OR
  • Evergreen and three (3) years of related experience*; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

*Related experience includes:

  • 1 year or more of conducting financial analysis, reconciliation, and financial reporting activities to support operational decision making.
  • 1 year or more of Interpreting and applying financial policies, procedures, and internal control requirements.
  • 1 year or more of generating and interpreting Data Warehouse and CAS reports.
  • 1 year or more of providing financial advice, guidance, or operational support to clients, program areas or business units.


Preference may be given to candidates with the required combination of education and experience and:

  • 2 years or more related accounts receivable and accounts payable experience gained in a public service or government environment.
  • 1 year or more experience supporting employee transitions, financial system access administration, and client support for corporate financial services.
  • 1 year or more experience coordinating ministry financial operations involving multiple functional areas such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, procurement, and corporate card administration.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
