The Team
The Port Alberni Engineering Team is an established, collaborative team of four that works closely with the Port Alberni Field Team to support safe and sustainable access to forest operations across the Strait of Georgia Business Area. Team members partner with forest professionals, engineers, geoscientists, and contractors to deliver timber sales that support local communities, contribute to British Columbia’s forest sector, and help maintain a reliable timber supply. The Role
As the Engineering Officer, you will lead the Port Alberni engineering program by overseeing budgets, managing engineering contracts, and coordinating construction, maintenance, and deactivation activities across an extensive network of Forest Service Roads and bridges within the Strait of Georgia Business Area. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
•    A degree or diploma in forest engineering, forest management or equivalent related field and three years of experience in road, bridge and major structures design, construction and maintenance.  
Or 
•    An equivalent combination of education and experience such as five years of experience in road, bridge and major structures design, construction and maintenance.
•    Experience in contract and or project management. 
•    Experience in managing complex road and or bridge construction projects. 

Professional Registration and Certification Requirements
•    Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as a Registered Forest Technologist.
•    Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.

Preferences
•    Experience supervising staff.
•    Budget management or financial administration experience.

•    Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.
•    Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
•    Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
•    Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.

About this Position:
This position is based in Port Alberni.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home two days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
