The Team
The Courtenay Court Administration team is an established and supportive group of dedicated Court and Registry professionals who work together to support both Provincial and Supreme Court matters. With a strong focus on teamwork and respectful partnerships with the judiciary and other justice sector partners, the team plays an important role in delivering accessible court services and supporting access to justice for people and communities with diverse needs and backgrounds.

The Role
As a Justice of the Peace/Deputy District Registrar, you will make independent judicial decisions, review court orders, provide information to the public, and deliver specialized registry and court services and support to the Judiciary, Registry staff and Court Clerks. Working in person and electronically, you will help ensure court processes are accurate, fair and accessible while providing respectful service to people with diverse needs and backgrounds.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience working in Court Administration as a court clerk or registry clerk.
  • A minimum of 2 years of related clerical experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in keyboarding, data entry, word processing, standard computer applications and software programs (ex: Windows, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams).
  • Must have or be eligible to obtain certification as a Deputy District Registrar for Supreme Court within 6 months.
  • Must have or be eligible to qualify for an appointment as a Justice of the Peace in the Province of British Columbia within 6 months.


Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • Experience in Court Programs and Applications (JUSTIN, CEIS, CCD, ARC, CTAS).
  • Certification as a Deputy District Registrar for Supreme Court.
  • Appointment as a Justice of the Peace in the Province of British Columbia.
