The Team
The Crown Land Authorizations Team (also known as the Lands Team) manages the use of Crown Land throughout the Thompson Okanagan or Kootenay Boundary Regions. The Thompson Okanagan Team has up to 21 positions, and the Kootenay Boundary Team has up to 16 positions that report up to the Section Head or Resource Manager. Both teams are comprised of Authorizations Specialists, Senior Authorizations Specialists and a Portfolio Administration team. Both are established but evolving teams of staff each bringing unique backgrounds and perspectives to their work. Together, they assess applications for land tenures, set terms and conditions, and ensure compliance through periodic inspections. Collaborating with diverse roles like, First Nations Relations, Geospatial teams, and external partners, the Lands Team plays a critical role in balancing land use needs while advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion principles in decision-making.

As Licensed Authorizations Specialist - Land, you’ll compile and analyze information to develop thoughtful recommendations and conduct field inspections that directly influence how Crown Land is used. Your work will have a meaningful impact on businesses, regional economies, job creation, and influence social, cultural, and environmental values. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

• Degree in the natural resource management field, plus two (2) years of related experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

Related experience must include the following:

• Experience working in natural resource management.
• Experience in consulting, negotiating, and resolving conflicts with various partners in natural resource management.

Professional Registration and Certification Requirements:

• Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC), Registered Professional Agrologist (PAg) with the BC Institute of Agrologists (BCIA), Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Registered Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.

Preference may be given to those with one (1) or more of the following:

• Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management (E.g. Land Act, Ministry of Lands Parks and Housing Act, Land Title Act).
• Experience in contract management.

Additional Requirements:

• Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
• May be required to operate field equipment (i.e., quad, snowmobile).

About this Position:
There are two (2) permanent full-time positions, and one (1) temporary full-time position (for approximately six (6) months) available in Clearwater, Kamloops, Merritt, Penticton, or Vernon.
There are one (1) permanent full-time position available in Cranbrook, Nelson, Revelstoke, Castlegar, or Invermere.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in the above locations.
