The Team
The BC Parks Thompson, Okanagan and Cariboo Sections within the South Coast Area, Conservation and Recreation Division are established, collaborative teams dedicated to protecting British Columbia’s parks and protected areas while providing safe and enjoyable outdoor recreation opportunities for residents and visitors. Senior Park Rangers play an important front-line leadership role, working alongside Park Rangers, Area Supervisors, Conservation Specialists, Recreation Services staff, First Nations, contractors, local governments, and community partners to support conservation, public safety, compliance, facility management, and visitor services.

The Role
As a Senior Park Ranger, you will provide front-line leadership in the delivery of BC Parks programs, balancing field operations, public service, and team leadership. You will supervise and mentor Park Rangers, lead conservation and recreation projects, support public safety and emergency response, oversee compliance and enforcement activities, manage facilities and contractors, and work collaboratively with First Nations, stakeholders, partners, and park visitors to help protect and enhance British Columbia’s parks and protected areas.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Natural Resource Management (e.g. recreation planning and/or management, biology, geology, natural resource management, forestry, fisheries, etc., geography, environmental studies, etc.) and six (six) months’ experience or Outdoor Recreation Management related degree and six (6) months directly related experience.
  • Completed related degree or 2-year diploma in Outdoor Recreation Management or a Natural Resource Management related field (related field may include: Biology, Geology, Geography, Recreational Planning, Outdoor Recreation, Forestry, Fisheries, Anthropology); and 12 months related experience, OR,
  • Secondary school graduation (or equivalent) and 2 years related experience (related experience can include: park system (operations), conservation, outdoor recreation, forestry, any earth sciences, recreation planning, public safety /enforcement).
     

Related experience must include:

  • Experience in natural resource management (such as ecosystem management, fish and/or wildlife management, forestry management, invasive species management, natural resource inventory and research, environmental impact assessment), cultural resource management (such as archaeological or cultural site management, archaeology), First Nation agreement management, and/or parks and protected area management encompassing a broad range of activities and initiatives related to the delivery of recreation and conservation programs and services including recreation facility management, natural resource management, inventory or research, park operations management, and/or compliance and enforcement; and/or,
  • Experience in outdoor recreation management (such as outdoor recreation planning, outdoor recreation facility development, operation and/or maintenance of outdoor recreations facilities, outdoor recreation service delivery); and/or,
  • Experience in compliance and enforcement related to natural resource or recreation management.

Preference may be given to those with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience in compliance and enforcement.
  • Experience in procurement, contract/contractor and budget management.
  • Experience in human resource management including supervision and recruitment.

About this Position:
This posting is to establish an eligibility list for future temporary and/or permanent vacancies in the locations listed above.
There are currently 4 positions available; 1 full time permanent position in Williams Lake and 1 full time permanent position in Penticton. We have 2 temporary opportunities in Kamloops until March 31, 2027 and September 10, 2027. These positions may be extended or become permanent.
