The Team
The Carrier and Facility Safety Inspector (CFSI) team is dedicated to ensuring the safety and compliance of commercial transportation operations throughout British Columbia through audits, inspections, investigations, and enforcement of transportation regulations and safety standards. The team values integrity, professionalism, and a strong commitment to service. Carrier and Facility Safety Inspectors work with CVSE enforcement personnel, supervisors, carriers, and industry stakeholders to improve road safety, protect highway infrastructure, and promote compliance in the commercial transportation industry. The team's collaborative environment fosters knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and problem-solving, ultimately making a real difference in the communities we serve.
The Role
The Carrier and Facility Safety Inspector is responsible for assessing compliance, effectiveness and integrity of the National Safety Code (NSC) and vehicle inspection programs. This role conducts audits of carriers, authorized inspection facilities, and related systems to ensure adherence to legislative, regulatory and policy requirements. Through auditing, analysis and reporting, the position supports road safety, promotes consistent program delivery, and identifies risks, trends and opportunities for continuous improvement. This position operates with a functional job title of Carrier and Facility Safety Inspector for the purposes of enforcement authorities and is a British Columbia Peace Officer.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
- Experience conducting interviews, audits and/or investigations.
- Experience interpreting and/or applying policy or procedures.
- Valid class 5 (minimum) driver’s licence in good standing with no more than 9 points within the last five-year period.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- One year or more experience in Commercial Vehicle Enforcement.
- Applicants who are Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance certified.
- One year or more of experience conducting interviews, audits and/or investigations.
- Experience providing advice and/or recommendations in compliance with applicable acts, regulations or legislation.
- Experience in Road Transportation or Law Enforcement.
Willingness Statements:
- Must be willing and able to work shift work, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays within a 24/7 operation.
- Able and willing to travel frequently within an assigned area, which may include travel in adverse weather conditions.
- Able and willing to work outside during periods of inclement weather in hazardous conditions
- Must maintain an active/adequate level of physical fitness.
- Able and willing to climb on and crawl under vehicles (which may include constricted spaces) while lifting, pulling, and pushing various equipment used during vehicle inspections and weight checks.
- Able and willing to carry portable scales weighing up to 50lbs each.
- Will be required to remove unsafe vehicles, and drivers from roadways who may become angry, hostile and/or abusive, while demonstrating self-control and professionalism.
- Must be willing to successfully complete and maintain Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) and other certifications as required.
- Must be willing and able to successfully complete all applicable/required courses and training.
- Must be willing to obtain and maintain in good standing Level I First Aid.
Must be willing to hold Provincial Peace Officer Status.
