The Team
The Tenure Operations and Sustainability team is a well-established, collaborative group of 18 professionals dedicated to shaping the strategic direction, legislation, policy, and sustainability initiatives that support BC Timber Sales across the province. We value diverse perspectives, inclusive collaboration, and strong partnerships with First Nations, communities, industry, and government partners to advance sustainable forest management. As a Senior Policy Officer, you will work alongside experienced and supportive colleagues while contributing to meaningful provincial policy and legislative initiatives that help ensure British Columbia’s public forests are managed responsibly for the benefit of current and future generations.

The Role
As a Senior Policy Officer, you will play a key role in shaping the legislation, policies, and tenure practices that guide BC Timber Sales across the province. Working with diverse partners, including Indigenous Nations, government decision-makers, industry representatives, and forestry professionals, you will provide strategic advice, lead complex policy initiatives, and help ensure sustainable and equitable forest management. Qualifications:
Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in forestry, forest science, forest ecology, forest engineering, or other related field; AND
  • Five years of operational experience in forest management (e.g., harvest operations, planning, silviculture) or tenure administration.
  • Experience providing services in accordance with established standards of professional ethics and conduct.


Professional Registration and Certification Requirements

  • Registered or immediately eligible to register with the Forest Professionals of British Columbia (FPBC) as a Registered Professional Forester.
  • Possess a valid B.C. drivers or be eligible to immediately acquire one.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following: 

  • Experience preparing written briefing materials, reports and correspondence for executive and senior management levels of ministries and organizations or elected members of government (e.g., treasury board and cabinet submissions, ministerial response letters, information notes, decision notes, analyses and recommendations etc.).
  • Experience planning, developing and implementing natural resource sector legislation, regulation and policies.
  • Experience with policy research and analysis, and research project work.
  • Experience planning, coordinating and implementing research and analytical activities.
  • Experience successfully negotiating/mediating solutions in the natural resource sector.
  • Experience planning, auctioning and administering forest tenures or timber harvesting-related sale and purchase contracts.
  • Experience preparing instructional, educational or other communication materials such as advisory bulletins, standard operating procedures, or training materials.
  • Recent BCTS program experience.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any Ministry of Forests office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
