The Team
The Director, Regional Initiatives provides strategic leadership to develop regional policy solutions and advance ministry priorities through collaboration, innovation, and evidence-based decision-making. Working closely with Indigenous partners, government agencies, communities, and stakeholders, this role helps advance reconciliation and foster inclusive approaches that reflect diverse perspectives. The position also leads key initiatives related to conservation, land and watershed planning, and organizational improvement to support sustainable and equitable outcomes.

The Role
The Land Use Planning and Cumulative Effects team works collaboratively with Indigenous governments, communities, natural resource agencies, and partners across all levels of government to support sustainable land and resource stewardship. Guided by a commitment to reconciliation, inclusion, and shared decision-making, the team brings together diverse perspectives to address complex environmental, conservation, and land use challenges. Through partnership, innovation, and evidence-based planning, the team helps balance environmental, social, cultural, and economic priorities for the benefit of current and future generations.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

• An undergraduate degree or higher in biology, science, resource management or related studies, and a minimum of 5 years of related experience as indicated below*; OR 
• A diploma or technical diploma in biology, science, resource management or related studies, and a minimum of 7 years of related experience as indicated below*; OR
• An equivalent combination of education and related experience as indicated below* may be considered.

*Related experience - minimum years required are as noted above for each related experience statement: 

• Experience in at least 2 of the following areas of expertise:
  • Land use planning; 
  • Decision support for statutory decisions;
  • Strategic projects with First Nations; and/or
  • Resource stewardship.
• Experience in management of financial resources, projects and multi-disciplinary professional and technical staff.
• Experience leading and resolving complex staff and/or client issues.
• Experience working with First Nations communities and/or facilitating First Nations consultations or negotiations.
• Experience in the Province of BC natural resource context.

Preference may be given to candidates with:

• Experience leading large geographically dispersed teams.
• Previous experience working with the natural resource sector in a region.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
