Description

The Team
You will join the Employment Standards Branch (ESB) Collection Team, a dedicated group that helps protect workers' rights by recovering unpaid wages and administrative penalties under provincial legislation. Through investigations, collections, and collaboration, you will contribute to ensuring employees are treated fairly, reducing overdue receivables, and supporting government programs that benefit British Columbians.

The Role
As a Collections Officer, you will analyze and manage delinquent accounts, investigate debtors and their assets, and take action to maximize the recovery of outstanding wages and administrative penalties. You will evaluate payment proposals, apply relevant legislation, and play a key role in advancing the Employment Standards Branch's commitment to fair and effective enforcement of employment standards in British Columbia.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Diploma and six (6) months of *related experience; OR
  • Certificate or coursework and one (1) year of *related experience; OR
  • Secondary School graduation (Dogwood, GED) and two (2) years of *related experience; OR
  • Evergreen and three (3) years of *related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

*Related experience must include all of the following:

  • Experience working in a public facing role.
  • Experience interpreting and applying statutes, legislation, regulations and/or policies.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Experience collecting overdue debts in a multi-portfolio environment.
  • Experience providing client service in an emotionally charged or adversarial environment.
  • Experience using databases to enter, update, search, retrieve and extract data ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
  • Experience working in an accounting, financial, legal or debt collection role.
  • Experience facilitating or negotiating resolutions to disputes or issues.
  • Experience working with BC Government records management systems. 
  • Experience working with BC Government financial policy.

About this Position:
This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
This is a temporary opportunity until December 1, 2028. This position may be extended or become permanent.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to four (4) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and/or permanent vacancies.
