The Team
The Practice Forester position is part of the Operational Team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for planning and implementing operational forestry activities. The team's primary objective is to deliver timber to market while upholding BCTS's commitment to sustainable forest management. Although the Business Area is organized into two teams, this role provides support across both teams to help achieve shared business objectives.

As a Practices Forester, you'll play a leading role in operational planning, cut block and forest road layout, silviculture activities, and ensuring compliance with the Forest Stewardship Plan. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- A Registered Professional Forester (RPF), or be eligible for registration as an RPF with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) and two (2) years of experience in operational field forestry activities.
Operational field forestry activities include the following:

- Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
- Cut-block development
- Forest road engineering
- Silviculture
- Timber tenure development and administration
- Planning integrated resource management
- Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
- Experience in more than one (1) operational field forestry activity.
- Experience working with Indigenous Peoples.
- Experience in contract management.
Provisos:
- Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.
- Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
- Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.
- Must be able to maintain membership with the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals as a member in good standing.

About this Position:
This position is based in Port McNeill.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established for future permanent and/or temporary opportunities.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
