Description

The Team:
The Emergency Management Unit (EMU) is a small, collaborative team of six positions that leads and coordinates the Ministry’s emergency management program. The team works across the organization and with external partners to strengthen emergency planning, business continuity, preparedness, response coordination, and continuous improvement. EMU develops the policies, procedures, tools, and resources that help the Ministry prepare for and respond to emergencies while maintaining critical services for children, youth, and families. The team collaborates with ministry executives, program areas, other ministries, local governments, and emergency management partners to support informed and coordinated decision-making during emergencies. As an established and evolving unit, EMU offers a supportive environment where team members can make meaningful contributions, bring forward new ideas, and help shape the future of the Ministry’s emergency management program.

The Role:
As a Project Coordinator, you will coordinate and deliver projects and activities that support the Ministry’s emergency management, business continuity and preparedness programs, taking assigned work from planning through implementation and close-out. This varied, hands-on role involves managing timelines, risks and deliverables, developing project documentation and guidance, supporting stakeholder engagement, and contributing to training, exercises and preparedness initiatives. You will also play a key role in emergency response activities, including situational awareness, reporting, communications, recovery coordination and Ministry Operations Centre operations during significant events. Your work will help reduce service disruptions and support timely, coordinated responses that protect the services relied upon by children, youth and families, while providing unique opportunities for growth and real-world emergency management experience.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Diploma in project management or a related field and one (1) year related experience*; OR
  • Certificate or coursework in project management or a related field and two (2) years related experience*; OR
  • Secondary School graduation (Dogwood, GED) and three (3) years related experience*; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

**Related experience may have been gained in a professional, community or volunteer setting and must include at least 3 of the following:

  • Developing or coordinating emergency management or business continuity projects.
  • Using project management principles and practices.
  • Tracking projects throughout the project life cycle and making recommendations to project leaders on revisions.
  • Researching policy issues or conducting policy analysis.
  • Developing internal or external guidance and/or standard operating procedures (e.g., could include “how to” documents for following regulations).
  • Writing information or decision notes for senior decision-makers.

Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following:

  • Emergency management experience responding to natural or human-caused hazards.
  • Experience with Business Continuity Planning or Emergency Management Planning.
  • Experience working in an emergency operations centre or similar command and control environment.
  • Experience working with and engaging with Indigenous Nations communities or organizations.
  • Experience in the development of emergency drills and exercises.

Willingness statements

  • May be required to work on-call and extended hours during emergency incidents and exercises.

This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to a few days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
