Description

The Team
Dispatch provides critical communications support between the public, coordination centres and operations in the field. Dispatch provides a communication link between the wildfire coordination centres to aircraft and personnel in the field, and they implement pre-approved fire control decisions. Dispatchers must be able to stay calm and focused in emergency situations, know how to multitask effectively, have good written and verbal communication skills, be a team player, and be willing to work extended periods with minimal time off during the summer. The Role
The Dispatch Supervisor supervises a team consisting of Dispatch Leads as well as full time and auxiliary dispatchers.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Technical diploma in a field related to forestry, resource management, public administration, business administration or equivalent knowledge, plus 1 year emergency response related experience; or
  • Grade 12 and an equivalent combination of education, training and related experience plus 3 years emergency response related experience
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience
  • Valid class 5 B.C. driver licence or equivalent


Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Incident Command System Dispatch Type 1 Certification
  • Supervisory experience in emergency management


Willingness:

  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures.
  • To keep current on emerging issues.
  • To take in-house training and certification as required.
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
  • To obtain and maintain certification and training for position to meet operational requirements.
