Description
The Team
The Public Guardian and Trustee of British Columbia is a corporation sole, created under the Public Guardian and Trustee Act which operates independently under provincial legislation to protect the legal and financial interests of minors; manage the legal, financial, health and personal care interests of adults under mental disability; and administer the estates of deceased and missing persons.
The Role
The Investigator is responsible for securing the assets of the Public Guardian and Trustee Clients. Some key duties include; protecting clients' financial, legal and personal interests by investigating, assessing and securing client’s premises, assets, and effects in communities throughout the Province. Appraising and making recommendations with respect to the storage and disposition of client assets and effects in a manner that respects the wishes of the client and family and maximizes the return for the client
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Forensic Investigation, Law Enforcement Studies, Criminology or related degree plus three years related experience in the last ten years; OR
- An equivalent combination of education, experience and training may be considered. An equivalent combination of education and investigative experience, within the last 10 years may be considered (i.e. experience that includes investigative report writing, search and investigative procedures and law).
- Must have a restricted and non-restricted possession-acquisition license (or obtain one within six months of acceptance of position).
- Must maintain a valid BC Driver’s License, with a satisfactory driving abstract.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience conducting investigations, writing investigative reports or who have a certification in Investigative Report Writing.
Proviso/Willingness Statements:
- Must maintain a valid B.C. Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving abstract.
- Must have a vehicle licensed and insured for work-related activities.
- Must be able to travel for work purposes throughout the province. Travel is a requirement with use of own vehicle on expenses.
- Exposure to a high-stress work environment, often dealing with stressful, complex and emotionally charged situations.
- Exposure to neglectful environmental conditions, which includes hoarding, squalor, pests, human and/or animal waste, chemicals, drug paraphernalia, etc.
- Exposure to hospital and care facility settings that have a high propensity for contagions.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until 03/31/2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and/or permanent vacancies.
Enhanced Security Screening will be required.

- describe when, where, and how you obtained your experience supervising or directing the work of others
