The Team
The Stand Management Team is an established, agile group of eight professionals within the Timber Harvesting and Silviculture Practices Section of the Forest Science Planning and Practices Branch. The team plays a key role in shaping silviculture policy and practice across B.C., bringing together subject matter experts in silviculture, policy development, and reporting. They work closely with colleagues across the Branch such as the Forest Establishment Team, as well as other parts of the Ministry including Forest Analysis and Inventory Branch, Timber Pricing Branch, Forest Investment and Reporting Branch, and District and Regional Operations.  Together they contribute a diverse range of skills and expertise to high-priority provincial initiatives including Forest Landscape Planning, BC Timber Sales review, and modernization of the free growing framework. The Role
The Forest Management Data Analyst is provided an opportunity to apply analytical and GIS skills to work that directly supports excellence in silviculture and forest management. The position compiles key statistics, analyzes stand‑ and forest‑level information, and produces data, reports, and critical analysis that inform decision‑making across the Ministry. With a strong connection to public outcomes, this work has high impact and contributes to improved silviculture practices across B.C. Candidates will be inspired by the chance to use data to influence forest stewardship and support evidence‑based policy, joining a team where technical expertise is valued and contributes to shaping the future of forest management.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration within six (6) months of employment, as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC). Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made. 
  • Master’s Degree in Forestry or Natural Resource Management, or related field, and at least five (5) years of recent, related experience; OR,
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or related field, and seven (7) years of recent, related experience; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of related education, training, and recent, related experience (e.g., forestry technical diploma plus at least nine (9) years of recent, related experience).

Recent (within the past ten (10) years), related experience must include each of the following:

  • Experience working with silviculture practices, data management systems and applications of associated standards.
  • Experience using GIS and carrying out spatial analysis.
  • Experience using RESULTS data for silviculture and statistical analysis.

Preference may be given to those who have one (1) or both of the following:

  • Experience using growth and yield tools and products.
  • Experience in project management and contract development.

About this Position:

This position can be based in any Ministry of Forests’ office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
