Description

The Team
The BCTS Chinook Engineering Team is an established team of 2 to 3 professionals who provide engineering expertise, project delivery, and technical guidance to support resource roads, bridges, and major structures across the Chilliwack and Squamish operating areas. As an Engineering Technologist, you will work closely with roles such as Engineering Officers, Woodlands Supervisors, Operations Technologists, Planning Foresters, and Practices Foresters in a collaborative and inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives and respectful teamwork. Together, the team helps maintain safe and reliable access to forest resources while protecting environmental values, and is known for its professionalism, responsiveness, and commitment to supporting field operations.

The Role
The Engineering Technologist is focused on implementing forest road engineering projects, which include contract management, bridge and major structures, surveys, resource roads, and road design to support the achievement of project and program objectives. The position provides: engineering technical services to support the achievement of project and/or program objectives, information to operational staff, and works closely with the Engineering Officer and/or the Woodlands Supervisor to ensure environmental, construction and legislative requirements are met.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Diploma in forest engineering, forest management or equivalent related field, plus three years of experience in a directly related operational field forestry activities

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience such as five years of experience in one or more area of operational field forestry activities
  • Operational field forestry activities include one or more of the following:
    • Forest road engineering
    • Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
    • Cut-block development
    • Timber tenure development and administration
  • Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as a Registered Forest Technologist or equivalent.
  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Experience in contract or financial administration.
  • Experience in reviewing data, analyzing and diagnosing engineering issues and developing recommendations to resolve the issues.

Provisos:

  • Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.
  • Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
  • Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.
  • Must be willing and able to work alone in isolated areas.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) vacancy available in Chilliwack.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement and successfully completed probation period.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and/or permanent vacancies.
