The Team
The Haida Gwaii Forest District (DHG) brings together a close-knit team of 13 professional and administrative staff who work collaboratively with provincial natural resource colleagues and partners from the Heritage and Natural Resource Department of the Council of the Haida Nation. As a GIS Analyst, you will work alongside forest professionals, administrators, managers, consultants, and Haida Nation partners to support informed decision-making that strengthens forest sector stability, environmental stewardship, public safety, and reconciliation. The Role
As a GIS Analyst, you will provide professional GIS services by collecting, managing, and analyzing geospatial data that supports natural resource programs, services, and decision-making across Haida Gwaii. You will collaborate with forestry professionals, local governments, Indigenous partners, and other organizations to ensure accurate and accessible spatial information while contributing to district health and safety initiatives and public awareness. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in geographic information systems, or in relate field, such as natural resources or geography and two (2) years of related experience; OR
  • Diploma in geographic information systems, or in relate field, such as natural resources or geography and three (3) years of related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Related Experience includes:

  • Experience designing and developing customized spatial tools.
  • Experience delivering complex spatial analysis projects in support of client’s business needs.

Preferences

  • Project management and administration experience including overseeing contracts. 
  • Experience in ESRI (ArcGIS) software.
  • GIS experience supporting operational forestry. 
  • Experience in Python, Model Builder or R programming language.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
