The Role
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, the Associate Executive Director of Service (AEDS) leads service delivery and operations across the SDA. The role provides direction to staff to ensure services meet ministry goals, targets, and outcomes. The AEDS receives operational oversight from the Executive Director of Service and works closely with Directors of Operations and other ministry partners.
The Team
The Okanagan West Kootenay SDA delivers community-based services across a large region of BC, including child welfare, child and youth mental health, children and youth with support needs, adoption and guardianship, early years, resources, youth transition, and youth justice services.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following areas: Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Education, Counselling, Clinical Psychology, Social Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Significant experience leading large-scale complex operations which include using project management, change management and communication principles.
- Significant experience in a managerial role in a social sector organization with responsibility for direct client and program service delivery, planning and evaluation.
- Experience with human resource practices (e.g., recruitment, training, performance management, labour relations, succession planning, staff engagement, and recognition).
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- At least two (2) years of continuous experience as a senior leader (Director or above) leading child welfare program delivery, including: child protection, resources and guardianship.
- At least two (2) years of continuous experience as a senior leader (Director or above) at MCFD.
- Applicants who are C6 delegated or immediately eligible for C6 delegation.
- Experience in the management and supervision of geographically dispersed, multi-disciplinary staff.
- Experience working with Indigenous peoples in the context of BC’s Reconciliation priorities.
- Applicants who self-identify as having Indigenous heritage (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction, or equivalent (i.e., from another Canadian Province).

About this Position:
This position can be based out of any of the Okanagan West Kootenay SDA offices locations listed above, and requires travel to other offices in the area.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and/or permanent vacancies.
