The Team
Team 3 - North Coast is an established negotiations team within the Government-to-Government and Community Relations Division of the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation. This collaborative team works closely with First Nations, government partners, and stakeholders to advance reconciliation on British Columbia’s North Coast through the negotiation and implementation of agreements that support strong government-to-government relationships and shared priorities.

The Role
The Negotiator leads complex negotiations and relationship-building initiatives with First Nations, the federal government, and provincial partners to advance reconciliation and support lasting agreements. This is a rewarding opportunity to work on high-profile and meaningful issues, develop innovative negotiation strategies, and contribute directly to improving Crown-Indigenous relationships while supporting positive social, economic, and community outcomes throughout British Columbia.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master’s degree in public administration, natural resource management, law, business administration or related field plus 3 years of *related experience; or
  • University degree in public administration, natural resource management, law, business administration or related field plus and 5 years of *related experience; or
  • Technical diploma in a relevant field and 7 years of *related experience.


*Related Experience must include all of the following:

  • Experience leading interest-based negotiations.
  • Experience leading professional multi-disciplinary team in a highly intense working environment.
  • Experience providing strategic advice to the minister, deputy minister, ministry executive, senior government officials (or private sector equivalent) on project/negotiations status.
  • Experience in multi-party negotiations in a cross-cultural setting.
  • Experience in project management, including planning, development and organizing and manage concurrent projects with multiple, competing priorities and rigid deadlines.
  • Experience in land return negotiations and implementation.


Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Individuals who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit).
  • Experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities.


Provisos:

  • Willingness and ability to travel. Frequent travel is a requirement of this position. Incumbents must be willing and able to travel throughout the province up to 70% of the time for extended periods with little notice.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license and be legally able to rent a vehicle in British Columbia.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until 09/03/2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and/or permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
This position is excluded from union membership.
