Description

The Team
The Court/Registry Clerk position is part of an established team of approximately 50 people at the Victoria Law Courts, a major regional hub that supports multiple levels of court and specialized justice programs. Working alongside Court Clerks, Registry Technicians, Deputy District Registrars, Justices of the Peace, supervisors, and other justice partners, the team provides timely, accurate, and professional service to the public while supporting the effective administration of Provincial and Supreme Court matters. The work is essential to maintaining access to justice, and the team's collaborative approach, and commitment to public service create a rewarding and fast-paced work environment.

The Role
Court/Registry Clerks provide court clerk services to the Court and administrative support within the Registry. Responsibilities include performing pre-court, in-court, and post-court duties; interpreting and processing court documents; maintaining court records and exhibits; recording court proceedings; and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of court files. In this role, you will interact regularly with the judiciary, legal professionals, justice system partners, and members of the public, playing a key role in supporting the fair and efficient administration of justice.


Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent (GED).
  • 2 years of experience working in an office environment; OR 
  • A combination of 2 years of customer service, clerical duties, office experience and education.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in keyboarding, data entry, word processing, standard computer applications and software programs (e.g., Windows, MS Word, Excel, Outlook).


Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience in court programs and applications (e.g., JUSTIN, CEIS, CCD).
  • Experience as a Court Clerk and/or Registry Clerk.
  • One year of previous work experience in a court or legal environment.


Proviso/Willingness Statements

  • Union membership is required
  • Attendance and completion of relevant training is required
  • May be required to work flexible hours, including varied shifts and overtime on short notice
  • May be required to travel, including travel in adverse weather conditions and work in other geographical areas, including circuit court locations. 
  • Must have reliable transportation and/or be willing to travel with others
  • Able to lift heavy objects up to 30 lbs

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until 12/31/2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
This position requires full-time, in-person work at one of the physical locations listed.
