The Team

The Wildfire Resilience and Forest Stewardship team is a growing group of forest professionals dedicated to advancing wildfire planning, prevention, and resilience across BC Parks. As part of the BC Parks Conservation and Stewardship Program, the team develops foundational guidance, tools, and training that support BC Parks staff, contractors, and partners in reducing wildfire risk. The team includes a Section Head, four Coordinators, and three seasonal technologists, working alongside the Conservation team of ecologists and a Director. Although under five years old, the team has already contributed significantly to provincial initiatives, including the BC Wildfire Service Crown Land Wildfire Risk Reduction Program, the Cultural and Prescribed Fire Program, and BC FireSmart®. Members value the work deeply and bring a high level of care, professionalism, and commitment to protecting park values and strengthening landscape-level resilience.

The Role

The Wildfire Resilience Coordinator – Coast Area plays a central role in planning, coordinating, and monitoring wildfire risk reduction projects that enhance resilience and reduce the threat of wildfires to park and protected area values. This position leads cross‑jurisdictional engagement and project delivery within the Coast Area, working closely with BC Parks operational staff, Natural Resource District staff, BC Wildfire Service prevention and prescribed fire specialists, local governments, and contracted professionals. The work directly contributes to provincial wildfire resiliency and offers forest professionals a meaningful opportunity to make a tangible difference across diverse and remarkable park landscapes. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree in a natural resource related field and two (2) years of related experience, OR diploma in a natural resource related field and three (3) years of related experience.
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration (within six (6) months of employment) as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Coursework and/or experience in project management.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project.
  • Experience managing relationships with partners and parties and/or leading engagement.
  • Experience in conflict and dispute resolution principles and practices.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience in one (1) or more of the following:
    • contract management;
    • procurement coursework and/or experience;
    • fuel management;
    • ecosystem restoration; and/or,
    • prescribed fire.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork, work in all weather conditions, travel to meet job requirements which may include overnight or extended stays, and travel in fixed and/or rotary winged aircraft and watercraft.
  • Must be physically capable of carrying out the duties of the position.

One position can be based in a Natural Resource Sector office in the Coast Area.

Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; these positions may be able to work a few days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
