The Team
The West Coast Land Authorizations Team is comprised of professional, technical and administrative staff reporting up to the Section Head and/or Resource Manager. The team is on the leading edge of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. We work closely with various levels of government partners, industry, and First Nations to support the allocation, adjudication, and administration of Crown land authorizations under the Land Act. The team exercises delegated decision-making authority related to the stewardship and allocation of provincial Crown land resources in the West Coast Region, ensuring that authorizations are managed in accordance with applicable legislation, policy, and government priorities while supporting sustainable land and resource management objectives.

The Role
Reporting to a Senior Authorizations Specialist or Senior Licenced Authorizations Officer, Section Head or excluded manager for the West Coast Land Authorizations team you will contribute to the stewardship of British Columbia's Crown land base through the adjudication and administration of land authorizations under the Land Act. This role offers the opportunity to apply professional judgment, engage with diverse interested parties, and support decisions that have lasting impacts on communities, resource development, environmental values, and provincial priorities. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree in a natural resource management field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association and 2 years of related experience.
  • Valid BC driver’s licence

Related Experience may include

  • Experience working in natural resource management.
  • Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.
  • Experience in consulting, negotiating, and resolving conflicts in natural resource management.

Professional Registration and Certification Requirements

  • Registered, or immediately eligible (within 6 months) for registration, with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area.  (e.g., Association of Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists). Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.

Preference may be given to applicants with one of more of the following experiences:

  • Experience performing technical duties and working with the Land Act.
  • Experience in Indigenous consultation processes and practices.

Willingness statements or provisos

  • Willingness to conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home up to five days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
