Description

The Team
The Water Authorizations Branch – North Area is an established and collaborative team of 16 professionals who work together to support the sustainable management of B.C.’s water resources. Working under the Water Sustainability Act, the team reviews and adjudicates water licences and authorizations while balancing environmental stewardship, Indigenous interests, community needs, and economic development. The Role
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the sustainable management of B.C.’s water resources by reviewing and making decisions on water licences and related authorizations that support communities, the environment, Indigenous interests, and economic development. The role offers a unique mix of office and field work, as well as opportunities to collaborate with First Nations, clients, government partners, and colleagues across ministries on complex and rewarding water management issues. Please note that this position is geographically restricted to the Northeast Area and is based in either Dawson Creek or Fort St. John.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association.

Related Experience may include

  • Experience (field/office) working in natural resource management.
  • Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes (acts and regulations) that support natural resource management.
  • Experience in consulting, negotiating, and resolving conflicts in natural resource management.

Preferences

  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience in supervising, leading, coaching, and mentoring staff.

Professional Registration and Certification Requirements

  • You must be registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC); OR, a Professional Agrologist with the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists (BCIA); OR, a Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC). Note: "Immediately eligible for registration" means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work 2 or more days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
