Description
The Team
The Regional Operations Branch of the Ministry of Mining and Critical Minerals (MCM) delivers frontline regulatory services across British Columbia, overseeing regional mine permitting, inspection, and compliance of mining activities under the Mines Act. With regional offices located throughout the province, the branch ensures consistent application of mining regulations while promoting safe practices, environmental stewardship, and responsible resource development.
The Role
The Inspector of Mines-Permitting is responsible for the review and issuance of permits and authorizations for all exploration and small mines in the region under the authority of the Mines Act. This position inspects mines to monitor compliance of mining and reclamation activity, manages consultation processes with other agencies, assesses environmental risk and sets reclamation bonds.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
• Degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Natural Resource Management or a related discipline from an accredited institution, and three (3) years’ current experience related to mineral exploration or mining operations; OR,
• Diploma in Mining Technology, Natural Resource Management or a related discipline from an accredited institution and five (5) years’ current experience related to mineral exploration or mining operations; OR,
• An equivalent combination of relevant education and recent, related experience may be considered.
• Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
• Experience participating in First Nations’ consultation processes.
• Experience involving a broad range of mining activities including exploration, access construction, mining methods and mine reclamation.
