The Team
The Wildlife Section is an established and collaborative team of professionals dedicated to conserving and managing wildlife populations and habitats across the Kootenay Boundary Region. Working alongside experienced Wildlife Biologists, a Wildlife Technician, a Senior Wildlife Biologist, a Caribou Recovery Specialist, and the Section Head, you will contribute to science-based decision making and partner with Indigenous Nations, stakeholders, and colleagues to support wildlife stewardship. The Role
As a Wildlife Biologist, you will lead wildlife conservation projects, conduct field studies and inventories, analyze biological data, and provide science-based recommendations that support wildlife stewardship and management across the Kootenay Boundary Region. Your work will help inform decisions that benefit wildlife populations, habitats, Indigenous Nations, communities, and stakeholders, while contributing to meaningful conservation outcomes on the ground. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or a related field and 2 years of related experience.
Related Experience includes the following:
- Experience in designing, developing and delivering wildlife species and habitat management strategies.
- Experience in methodologies used to assess wildlife population and habitat parameters and collecting, analyzing and reporting biological data.
- Experience interpreting and applying natural resource management legislation and policy.
- Experience in delivering both written and oral communications.
Professional Registration and Certification Requirements
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology (CAB).
- Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the registration process with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
- Valid BC driver’s licence.
Willingness/Provisos
- Must be willing and physically able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
- Must be willing and able to conduct field work in all weather conditions and environments. This may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in camp conditions and operation of a variety of equipment.
- Must be willing and ablemeet safety standards of Work Safe BC.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any of the following Water, Land, Resources and Stewardship offices: Nelson, Cranbrook.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 or more days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
