The Team
The Integrated Data & Analysis Services Branch (IDAS) is a collaborative, service-oriented team within GeoBC that supports natural resource management by providing high-quality environmental data, information, and knowledge to inform decision-making across the province. As the Remote Sensing Team Lead, you will join a new 20-person Northeast Human Disturbance project team and work alongside skilled data experts and GIS professionals to advance a high-priority initiative that improves provincial understanding of human disturbance in Northeastern B.C. The Role
As the Remote Sensing Team Lead, you will lead the development and assessment of innovative remote sensing data solutions for Northeast B.C., helping to create trusted data and methodologies that support future operational decision-making across the Natural Resource Sector. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Master's degree in a natural resource field and 2 years of *related experience, OR
- Bachelor’s degree in a natural resource field and 3 years of *related experience, OR
- Diploma in a natural resource field and 4 years of *related experience, OR
- An equivalent combination of education and *related experience may be considered.
*Related Experience includes all the following:
- Experience supporting clients and/or project teams designing and developing remote sensing solutions.
- Experience using remote sensing software (e.g. Solv3d, Google Earth Engine, Global Mapper, etc.).
- Experience data modelling and product development using LiDAR, remote sensing, and/or satellite imagery with a strong foundation in optical and/or LidarR theory and applications.
- Experience analyzing large, complex geospatial data (including raster analysis) and related information in support of natural resource management.
Preferences may be given to applicants with 1 or more of the following:
- Experience with custom geospatial data modeling using GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro and/or QGIS.
- Experience supervising and/or leading collaboratively across teams and agencies.
- Experience programming/scripting (e.g. Python, R, VBA, JavaScript etc.) for the purposes of data management, automation, visualization, and scientific communication.
- Experience with writing technical documentation (e.g. modelling methodologies, contract specifications, data processing procedures, etc.).
- Experience with developing remote sensing products focused on forestry, vegetation health or/and disturbance.
- Experience with project management, coordination, and delegation.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until May 31, 2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
Remote work is allowed, this position can work up to full time from their home in British Columbia subject to an approved telework agreement. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
