Description

The Team
The Corporate Communications & Change team provides communications and change management support for the Corporate Operations Branch, contributing to projects related to contract management, technical operations, and sector and student engagement. This established, collaborative team works closely with leaders and colleagues across the ministry to support important business projects, with work that ultimately contributes to effective services for children, families, and service providers across B.C. The role offers opportunities to contribute to creative and engaging projects in a supportive, inclusive, and flexible hybrid work environment.

The Role
The Communications Officer leads a variety of engaging communications and change management projects across the Ministry of Children and Family Development, including developing briefing materials, supporting website and SharePoint content, and creating basic graphic design deliverables. In this role you will help teams communicate clearly, understand and implement new initiatives, and navigate change in a way that supports inclusive and accessible information for employees and the people they serve. With a growing portfolio of new and dynamic projects, this position offers meaningful variety, opportunities to work with senior leaders, and a supportive team environment where learning and collaboration are valued.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, or equivalent field and 1 year of related experience, or
  • Diploma in Communications, Public Relations, English, or equivalent field and 2 years related experience, or
  • Certificate or coursework in Communications, Public Relations, English, or equivalent field and 3 years related experience, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
     

Related Experience includes:

  • Experience in public relations, corporate communications, or media relations in a large organization.
  • Experience writing and editing a variety of communications materials.

About this Position:
Amendment October 8, 2026: posting information below amended to correct temporary opportunity end date to April 28, 2028.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 4 at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Child and Family Development offices: Burnaby, Campbell River, Creston, Fort Nelson, Fort St. John, Hope, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Nelson, Port Moody, Prince George, Surrey, Vancouver, Vernon, Victoria, West Kelowna, Williams Lake.
This is a temporary opportunity until April 28, 2028. This position may be extended or become permanent.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and/or permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
