The Team:
The Environment and Geotechnical Engineering group plays a critical role in delivering safe, resilient, and sustainable transportation infrastructure across British Columbia. Bringing together engineering, environmental, and technical expertise, the team develops provincial standards, informs policy, responds to emerging challenges, and collaborates with partners across governments, research organizations, industry, and communities to support projects that matter to British Columbians.

The Role:
As the Senior Rockwork Engineer, you will help protect one of BC’s most critical public assets: its transportation network. Leading complex rockfall mitigation and rock slope stabilization projects across the province, you will provide expert technical leadership, guide infrastructure investments, and develop engineering solutions that reduce risk and improve safety for the travelling public. Your expertise will help shape how the province identifies, manages, and responds to some of its most challenging geotechnical hazards. The impact of your work will be seen across the transportation network and felt by road users every day.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Degree in Geological/Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent as recognized by the Engineers & Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
  • Seven (7) years of engineering experience related to rock slope stabilization and rockfall hazard assessment demonstrated across a combination of experience in the following areas:
  • Assessment and response to rockfall events to assess level of hazard and develop solutions
  • Design of rockfall hazard mitigation and rock slope stabilization measures
  • Preparation of technical specifications and construction contract documentation for rock slope stabilization works 
  • Provision of engineering support during rock slope stabilization construction projects
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

Professional Registration and Certification Requirements:

  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full-time position available.
This position can be based out of Coquitlam or Kamloops.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work two (2) or more days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
