The Team
The Industrial Land Team is a dedicated group of approximately nine policy, partnerships, land use and project management professionals within the Economic Strategy Branch, working together in a collaborative environment to ensure B.C.’s economy has the space to grow. Established about 18 months ago to bring greater focus to industrial land, the team works across government and with local governments, First Nations and industry to address industrial land challenges and meet the province’s needs now and into the future.

The Role
The GIS Analyst designs customized spatial tools and delivers complex spatial analysis to support industrial land projects and evidence-based decision-making. This role offers an opportunity to apply technical GIS expertise to meaningful work that helps address industrial land challenges and ensures B.C. has the space needed for economic growth now and into the future.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in geographic information systems, or in related field, such as natural resources or geography and two (2) years of related experience year; OR

  • Diploma in geographic information systems, or in related field, such as natural resources or geography and three (3) years of related experience; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Related experience must include:

  • Experience designing and developing customized spatial tools.

  • Experience delivering complex spatial analysis projects in support of client’s business needs.

  • Experience in ESRI (ArcGIS) software.

  • Experience automating GIS workflows using Python, Model Builder or R programming language.

  • Experience editing and maintaining large and complex spatial and attribute data sets.

Preference may be given to candidates with: 

  • Project management and administration experience including overseeing contracts.

  • Experience in AutoProp software.

  • Experience developing web mapping solutions using various platforms (e.g., ArcGIS Online, open-source solutions).

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until March 31, 2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and/or permanent vacancies.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home three (3) days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
