The Team
Join the B.C. Conservation Data Centre (BC CDC), an established team of 12 professionals who are dedicated to conserving B.C.’s biodiversity through the collection and sharing of scientific information on species and ecosystems at-risk. With over 35 years of experience, the team collaborates with federal and local governments, Indigenous governing bodies, biologists, and natural resource professionals across the province. This is an opportunity to contribute to meaningful conservation work while being part of a cohesive team with a strong and well-established mission.

The Role
This role provides an opportunity to lead the delivery and evolution of the BC CDC’s data and information that supports natural resource management and biodiversity conservation across B.C. Working with other government programs and external partners, you will help inform key decisions through innovative data management solutions. The position offers meaningful, collaborative work with a wide range of partners while contributing to the conservation of B.C.’s species and ecosystems.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

•    Undergraduate degree in a natural resource field, plus training or equivalent experience in geomatics, geographic information systems, or related area; OR equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 
•    Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated experience planning, directing and organizing own work.
•    Minimum of two (2) years of providing supervision and technical direction to professional staff / contractors.
•    Minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated experience developing and managing large spatial and attribute data sets and experience with database management tools and applications. 
•    Minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated experience of customer service working with clients such as Indigenous governing bodies; local, regional, provincial and federal governments; consultants and professionals; and, non-profit agencies to create, deliver and support use of data for a variety of natural resource sector projects. 
•    Minimum of six (6) months of demonstrated experience managing corporate data solutions (and associated data security) for government staff and external clients.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following: 
•    Demonstrated experience with manipulating data in a PostgreSQL or Oracle environment.
•    Demonstrated experience developing methods and performing custom geo-spatial data modelling, complex analysis, and interpretations.
•    Demonstrate experience providing high quality client service to diverse groups and individuals, particularly pertaining to complex data sharing agreements.
•    Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous governing bodies, agencies and communities to manage Indigenous knowledge alongside scientific data.

About this Position:
