The Team:
The Planning Objectives and Implementation Team sits at the forefront of species-at-risk recovery and stewardship planning in British Columbia. Working alongside First Nations, technical specialists, regional planning teams, and government partners, this collaborative group helps shape land use and stewardship outcomes that balance environmental, cultural, social, and economic priorities. With responsibility for major conservation initiatives, including support for caribou recovery and the delivery of significant stewardship funding programs, the team helps advance some of British Columbia's most important conservation priorities.

Great stewardship outcomes don't happen by accident. They require people who can build relationships, navigate complexity, and move important work forward. As a Land and Resource Specialist, you lead high-profile planning, policy, and stewardship initiatives that support biodiversity conservation, advance shared priorities with First Nations, and help shape stewardship outcomes across British Columbia.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) and two (2) years of related experience, or
- Bachelor’s Degree in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) and three (3) years of related experience, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Related Experience may include:
- Experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project or regional initiative.
- Experience in managing project teams.
- Experience managing relationships with senior level partners.
- Experience or knowledge in implementing provincial and regional First Nations consultation procedures.
- Experience and knowledge of conflict and dispute resolution principles and practices.
Professional Registration and Certification Requirements:
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC), Registered Professional Agrologist (PAg) with the BC Institute of Agrologists (BCIA), Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Registered Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
Preference may be given to those with one (1) or both of the following:
- Training in project management or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating groups whose members hold varying interests, in a natural resource context.
Additional Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain a BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Must be willing to travel throughout the province by passenger vehicle, plane, or helicopter.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full-time position available.
This position can be based in a Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to five (5) at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
